Healing Hounds
The Healing Hounds Program is a unique program made possible through a partnerships with local facilities (prisons, rehab facilities, schools) and Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue. Selected participants (resident /fosters/ inmates) have the opportunity to become trainers to rescue dogs in “The Program”. Participants work with the dogs teaching them basic obedience skills and properly socializing the animals. Some of these dogs move on to a more intense program to become therapy dogs for adopters with disabilities, others just simply become more adoptable. In either case, once the dogs have successfully completed either training, they will be adopted through the adoption process.
There are multiple benefits to “The Program”;
The Healing Hounds Program gives its participants the skills necessary to support successful rehabilitation and, ultimately improving community awareness. At the same time, this is an opportunity for the participants to develop training skills.
“The Program” may also be used as a form of reward, as only participants with the best performance may be eligible to participate in the Healing Hounds Program.
The opportunity for the participants to give back to the community.
Participants in “The Program” will improve behavior as poor behavior will result removal from “The Program.
“The Program” will also saves dogs’ lives. Many dogs that were unwanted and would have been euthanized have found a temporary foster family after been through “The Program”.
Some of the pups that enter “The Program” have typically lost their trust in people. They have been traumatized and sometimes even abused. While in the Healing Hounds Program, they are given time to heal and re-gain their confidence and trust in humans. The dogs are assigned to a participant and they live alongside him/her the entire time the participant is in “The Program”.
The participants socialize the pups and get them ready to live with a family of their own or become therapy dogs to disabled vets. Over the course of time in “The program”, each pup learns to walk on a leash, is housebroken, and learns basic commands, all the while building a stronger faith in humans.
In summary “The Program” is designed to educate, reward and promote.
Educate the participant in animal care, the prevention of animal cruelty, and provide them the necessary new valuable skill to seek a job in the animal field.
Reward both, the animal and the participant, for good behaviour.
To promote a forever adoption as the result of a well behaved, trained dog.

Pawsitive Beginnings
Animal Welfare: Ensure that the pregnant animals receive proper care, nutrition, and medical attention throughout their pregnancy, delivery, and nursing period. It’s essential to prioritize the health and well-being of both the mother and her offspring.
Socialization: Provide a safe and nurturing environment for the newborn animals to grow and develop. Socialization is crucial during the early stages of life to ensure that the animals grow up to be well-adjusted and friendly pets.
Healthcare: Regular veterinary check-ups, vaccinations, and deworming for both the mother and the kittens or puppies are essential to prevent the spread of diseases and ensure their overall health.
Spaying and Neutering: Spaying and neutering are crucial to help control pet overpopulation. Make sure the animals are spayed or neutered at the appropriate age to prevent unwanted litters in the future.
Owner Education: Provide information and resources to pet owners about responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spaying and neutering, vaccination, regular vet visits, and proper care for their pets.
Adoption Process: When the kittens or puppies are old enough, ensure they are placed in loving and responsible homes through a thorough adoption process that screens potential adopters to find the best match for each animal.
Follow-Up Care: Offer support and follow-up care to adopters to ensure the animals continue to receive proper care and attention in their new homes.
By implementing these practices and focusing on the well-being of the animals, you can make a positive impact on animal welfare and help create a more responsible pet ownership culture in your community.
Angel Fund
Our Angel Fund was created shortly after our veterinary hospital was opened. The Angel Fund helps clients that come to our hospital with pets in critical conditions caused by illness or accidents and are unable to pay for the care. The Angel Fund allows the staff to care for the injured animal without payment concerns.
This type of fund can make a significant difference in the lives of both the animals and their owners during stressful and difficult times.
Having this fund in place not only demonstrates our hospital’s commitment to animal welfare but also helps to ensure that pets receive the care they need, regardless of their owners’ financial situations. It can be a great relief for pet owners to know that there is support available to help them in such challenging situations.
