JUSTIN GREGORY BARTLETT
DECEMBER 8, 1984 – DECEMBER 14, 2008
If you were to try to summarize Justin Bartlett’s twenty four years of life in a single phrase, you would probably come up with something such as “caring” and “sharing”. And he continues to remain an important, relevant figure in the community of caring due to his amazing ability to always be there for his family, friends, strangers… and the homeless and lost animals whose lives he touched. What makes the Justin Bartlett story so unique is that he has had a successful bond with every life he crossed. That legacy continues — now being carried on by the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue.
His amazing “caring and sharing” can be attributed, in part, to the timelessness of his compassion, his unrequited love, his courage to step up in times of dismay, and above all, being dependable and able to be counted on no matter what.
Nicknamed “Shark” (for his love of fishing), JUSTIN GREGORY BARTLETT, of Wellington, Florida, passed away, from injuries in a car accident on Sunday, December 14, 2008. Born in Miami, but, raised in Wellington, he was the son of Rick and Karen Bartlett. He is survived by his parents, brothers, Joshua, Jacob & Richard, his grandmother, Margaret Lones, his beloved Emily McMichael and his childhood friends Todd Perez and Mike Gauger.
The family had moved to Wellington when he was just nine years old. He attended Wellington Elementary, then graduated from Wellington High School and worked side by side with his father in their landscape architect and installation business.
“There is no getting around the loss and heartbreak, but Justin’s friend, Todd took it upon himself to memorialize our son in a way that keeps his spirit alive every single day,” said Karen Bartlett. “Justin was a near-perfect son. He was the kid who stopped to change a tire for a total stranger on the side of the road. He rescued countless animals he found roaming lost, or along dangerous highways.”
“He was kind, loving, caring, gentle…. and always reaching out to people and animals. All exactly why the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue is so reminiscent of Justin.
The Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue has been successful in holding memorial golf tournaments in his honor and other signature events — bringing his friends and family together annually since July 2010. This has contributed significant funding to saving animals … “A tribute that would show Justin Bartlett in his most proud moments,” says Peter Torres, President and co- founder of the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue.
