Animal Hospital Receptionist

The Animal Hospital Receptionist is the first point of contact for clients and their pets. This role ensures a welcoming, professional, and compassionate environment while managing front-desk operations, client communications, and administrative support for the veterinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet clients and their pets warmly upon arrival and provide excellent customer service.
  • Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and respond to client inquiries.
  • Check in/out patients and process payments accurately.
  • Maintain and update client and patient records in the hospital’s system.
  • Communicate with veterinary staff regarding patient arrivals, emergencies, or special requests.
  • Manage incoming/outgoing correspondence, including emails and voicemails.
  • Assist with prescription refills and relay information between veterinarians and clients.
  • Keep the reception area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Support other administrative or clerical duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (some college preferred).
  • Previous experience in customer service, receptionist, or veterinary/medical office setting preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate, pet-friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with veterinary practice management software is a plus.
  • Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
